Due to a lack of consensus on how to regulate and fund novel diagnostic and therapeutic technologies, there are gaps in the policies and regulations that guide the clinical and health system implementation of these technologies. This creates access barriers to innovative care for children, adolescents and young adults (CAYA) with cancer in Canada and internationally.
The aim of the Regulation, Policy & Economics research theme is to assess health policies and systems to improve health equity and disparities, provide rigorous health systems evidence, promote evidence-informed policies and programs that will translate into equitable, efficient and sustainable cancer care for children, adolescents, and young adults in Canada.
Priorities
- Analyze existing policies and system structures that shape the regulation and funding of innovative diagnostic and therapeutic technologies for pediatric cancer to determine key implementation challenges and opportunities.
- Identify disparities in access to pediatric cancer care in Canada and generate evidence-informed recommendations to address them.
