Research is essential to finding solutions to life-threatening conditions and diseases, including pediatric cancer. Research discovery allows us to explore effective approaches to the prevention, earlier detection, and treatment of diseases. However, as we step into an increasingly digital world, it’s important to proactively design ethical, legal, and data governance structures that promote quality research, safeguard health data, and uphold new and improved models of ethics, inclusion, and diversity.

The aim of the Ethical, Legal and Societal Issues & Implementation Science research theme is to improve system processes including ethics reviews, data governance, and data sharing and to facilitate the adoption of research innovations into regular use.

Priorities

  1. Streamline pan-Canadian multi-centre pediatric Research Ethics Board reviews.
  2. Facilitate data governance, and data sharing across the network.
  3. Improve communication of research results and access to patient data by patients, families, academics, and healthcare providers.
