Pediatric cancer care and research is a complex space to navigate for healthcare providers, research teams, trainees, patients and their families. There are significant gaps in the education and awareness of the intricate and rare nature of pediatric cancers, research pathways, and care options for patients and families. In addition, for academics and clinicians, there is an increased need for specialized training programs exclusively focused on pediatric oncology.

The aims of the Education & Training research theme are to improve patient involvement in pediatric cancer care, advocacy, and research and to enhance career development and training opportunities for clinicians, researchers, people with lived experience, and other team members.

Priorities

  1. Conduct an environmental scan and needs assessment of existing educational resources for patients, families, clinicians, and researchers to identify gaps.
  2. Support education and training for people with lived experience, health care providers, researchers, and trainees.
  3. Develop an online centralized Learning Hub that includes research and career development curricula.
  4. Establish a national Patient and Family Education Community of Practice to share and standardize knowledge.
